Last week, I was roped in by my form teacher to join an event titled the "Insight Series". Let me begin by giving a short insightful introduction on what the "Insight Series" was about.
Basically, it was a joint event between a few schools ( With mine being the most prestigious hahaha )and debates are carried out not in the context of our modern day society but context of Disney's Fairy Tales. The issues at hand however, are the problems we face in our modern society such has nudity and child abuse. Sounds interesting, does it not? Well, I was the usher for the event and while I was leading students into the auditorium ( Which was only 5 meters away from me, thus explaining the redundancy of my role...but it was still an essential. ) , I overheard the organiser of the event commenting how the teachers from other schools were so excited about the event because they "have never seen anything like this". Alright, enough on my experiences. Let me move on.
Okay, I will still be sharing my experiences. Well, maybe more of my opinion on the little sharing session we had with the Attorney-General Chamber. Of course, I cannot be arguing against what he said because his sharing session was about the judiciary system in Singapore. Like I have said, he was presenting facts. No arguments. But I found his presentation inspiring. To be honest, I have always considered becoming an attorney, albeit the bar examination has set its "bar" too high up and I am BARely qualified ( You get the puns ? ). His presentation included the procedures from the point of arrest to the passing of the sentence of a criminal. This gave me an insightful understanding of how the judiciary system works and the rationale behind it. For example, I was told that he ( The Attorney-General ) has the right to decide whether or not a person can be charged. If he deems that person not guilty or that the case was simply a trivial matter, no court proceedings will follow up on that case. This greatly emphasised how much power he holds and how much responsibility he carries, which made me even more eager to pursue a law career. His presentation also made everyone in the auditorium to be more aware of the law. He gave examples of common crimes, their punishment and how he decides whether or not he will bring it to court.
In the nutshell, the Insight Series was an enriching event though most of the information he shared was what I knew beforehand. But my greatest takeaway was having the chance to hear all these from the Attorney-General himself as well as his experiences in the field; something I can never pick up from a book.
Thats all. Signing off.

This is not the local celebrity blog. But the blog is on its way there. Believing this blog is like believing Singapore is a tiny dot on the map ( YES ! You ought to believe this blog). Contrary to popular beliefs, any similarities between articles, characters, names, noose bulletin-styles and even political figures are purely coincidental. And now, THE Blog

Look at the glaring irony here. The previous post was about keeping this blog alive and here I am only writing a new post after...2 months? Blame it on me? Blame it on society! We live in a society so competitive and so unforgiving that even the slightest mistake can cost you a lot. And as most of us cannot afford that cost, we have no choice but to continue striving and competing for perfection because anything less is unacceptable...in our society. And it is this very perfection that is the root of everything. From me not blogging, to the kind of posts I write, to my way of thinking and my perception of our society.
Why am I not blogging? Because there is simply nothing to blog about. Every time I try to blog about a flaw or loophole present in our society, it will be simply resolved before I could even construct my post. The draft I wrote to rant on the increasing number of stray cats...lets just say the cats disappeared faster than I could draft out my post.
And why are my posts always so lacking in enthusiasm? Because I see no point in having a blog. Honestly, how influential can blogs be? Even the local celebrity bloggers can only complain about their life, upload a few pictures and that is about it. Sure, they get the views, they get the comments, so what? Who really takes them seriously? If I start ranting on politics, flaws with the education system, pressure teenagers are facing...will my posts ever be entertained? And really...active bloggers never talks or read politics on blogs because they find it a real turn-off.
Guess what? I have to write to the forums to share my viewpoints on politics because teenagers...forget it. I can continue ranting and sharing my views but no one is ever going to read it. Maybe my teacher will but thats all the attention I get.
For someone like me who is forced by society to spend everyday pursuing perfection and leave no time and attention for things like blogging, blogging is meaningless because I do not even have the time to do it. And problems are always resolved so quickly rants are useless. And all those other bloggers out there spends their time doing nonsense instead of contributing. They have the viewers! But what do they do with it? Nothing!
P.S But then again...they have the viewers because they did nonsense...

Standing firm
Dear readers,
I just realised this blog is really dead. No one visits here. Ever. But then again, I am not one who easily has his opinion swayed by others. I have decided to keep this blog going and I will continue to do so.
Peer pressure, peer influences, whatever you call it, is what I hate the most. Many a times, our actions and words are controlled and restricted by our environment. It prevents us from doing what our heart tells us to and this is annoying. We should be driven by our ideals and beliefs and should advance with how our heart tells us to. Why should we let our friends or the others around us control our actions and dominate us? We are living creatures. We ought to be the one in dominance of ourself.
Yes, I do agree that certain logical explanations may eventually successfully change our perception but it should really be minimised. We should be the one coming up with our own logical explanations and think it through thoroughly. Once the thinking is done, our decision should be "locked up" and shield it from any external criticisms or comments.
One example would be my decision to flush my fishes down the toilet bowl. They were fighting and their scales were peeling off. Their chance of survival is zero. So I had to make this hard decision of how I should deal with them. Toss aside my humanity and kill them or do injustice myself by allowing them to die inside the pond and stink up the entire aquarium?
Logical thinking means doing what is beneficial to me. Obviously the former fits my perception of "logical thinking" and thats decided. Despite how my younger brother cried and plead for me to allow those fishes to stay in the pond, I scooped them up and tossed them into the toilet bowl. And with a single push of a button, they ended up...I dont know where.
To give an answer and a conclusion to this blog post, standing firm in one's decision means to come up with a definitive decision/stand that is derived from logical thinking based on nothing but benefits to oneself. There is no need for ethical issues/emotions to interfere with your decision making. Of course, as long as no laws are broken in the process, sympathy, empathy consideration of other's feelings need not be part of anything. Its only when you discard these useless emotions in the thinking process, you will be able to stand up firm to the comments and criticisms you face. Humans are interesting creatures.
A person's perception of truth is what a person truly believes. So in order to stand firm in your decision/opinion, you need to make yourself think that something is the truth. And the easiest way is to reason with yourself. So if you are able to persuade yourself that sympathy, empathy, whatever is not to be involved in the issue at hand, then no matter what reasonings someone com up with based on those factors will affect you one slight bit.
Another example would be the death of someone close. Persuade yourself that EVERYONE has to die and it just so happens that the time is now. As for the precious memories you shared with the late whoever, is something of the past and will not fade away along with that person's life. In that case, there is nothing more between you and the dead that will take place and thus there is no need for you to miss him/her. That way, you probably wont even cry in the funeral itself because there is nothing for you to grief about. You have accepted the fact that it is expected of him to be in the coffin and you have persuaded yourself that whoever is inside the coffin is of no significance to you. Thus, there will be no need to miss that person and so you cant be grieving over anything.
People who stand firm are people who discarded their emotions. Any one with emotions will eventually break down, and that is hardly firm. (Lols. Nice oxymoronic pun. "Hardly" "firm" is not firm at all. Haha)
